She gasped as her eyes opened to a bright light. It took her a minute to realize she was looking at the moon as it lit the night sky. Slowly, she sat up and took in her surroundings. She had been laying outside in the warm summer night, and Jack was asleep right next to her. Belatedly, she remembered going on a picnic with Sandman and Jack that morning. They had stayed out till the sun was going down, and all three of them had fallen asleep. She looked around, looking for Sandman, but there was no sign of him.
She shook her head to get rid of the grogginess, and turned towards Jack. He was still asleep facing her. She lay back down so that both of them were on the blanket facing each other. No matter how many time she looked at him, Jack always took her breath away, and these days, it was getting harder and harder to look at him straight in the eye without feeling blood rush into her face. Knowing chances like these didn’t always come, she savored the moment and took in every little detail.
He was stunning, she realized.
Without thinking, she raised her hand towards his face and, using her finger, traced down the side of his jaw. Suddenly, she felt a little chill and found herself looking into Jack’s icy eyes.
They sparkled under the the light of the moon as they looked into hers.
